Determination and talent with purpose

My passion lies in exploring the frontiers of unmanned aviation while upholding an unwavering commitment to model aircraft. I bring a lifelong dedication to pushing the limits and fostering continuous innovation and improvement in the realm of RC aerobatics. My journey is fueled by an insatiable drive for elevating my sport performance, embracing challenges and consistently seeking ways to enhance it.

Mechanical Engineer specialized in unmanned aviation and a disruptive entrepreneur at https://i-avanzada.com/. With over four decades of experience, I've been designing, building, and flying model airplanes since 1978, venturing into radio control (R/C) model aircraft in1983.

As a seasoned sportsman, I hold multiple national championships in R/C aerobatics for airplanes and helicopters. I've showcased my skills at prestigious events like the F3A World Championships in Argentina (2007), United States (2011), South Africa (2013), and Switzerland (2015), alongside participation in the US Nationals 2011 and the Pan American F3A Open as a finalist and semifinalist. Previously, I was a former team member of JR Americas.

Senior Pattern Colombia 2019 championship

Dirty Birdy Gladiator / Full JR (Japan Remote) gear  / Stock OS. 65 w/ muffler / 13x9 prop / Airframe 21 years old!

Club Halcones Cali - Valle 12102019 - 13102019

Club Gaviotas Pereira - Risaralda 01062019 - 02062019

Club Halcones Cali - Valle 12102019 - 13102019

This year (almost ending):

I helped Jorge Lozano (master class), Thomer Deshet and Santiago Muñoz (both of them in advanced class) 1st and 2nd - Congrats to them!

My co-pilot in Pereira (June): Santiago Mondragón.
My co-pilot in Cali (October): Tomer Deshet.

I judged very nice flights, first in Pereira (June) Advanced class and In Cali, the F3A category (unpacking the new FAI P21 and FAI F21 routines) and again I learned a lot from the perspective of trying to be a balanced judge (beyond good and evil) and the BIG effort to write the correct qualification.

About Dirty Birdy Gladiator, due it is an uncomfortable machine "hard to fly": Not enough power, no rudder authority,  it does not fly well in knife edges and it has some bad aerodynamic habits - it is a design from early 80'.

The good thing is that it requires me very hard, to show the judges at least a decent flight... Fortunately, they can't see the radio control sticks :)

Never be satisfied and always try to be out of the comfort zone (the AC room), applied to any sport or life; my metaphoric zones:

1. Comfort zone: Nothing happens (reverse shift gear).
2. Learning zone: 100% learning.
3. Panic zone: 1000% learning.
4. The light tunnel (be careful, you need a rope): Exponential learning.

Keep a smart practice and see you in 2020!

Senior Pattern Colombia 2018 championship (First stage - Alcaravanes RC Club)

I take some time to write an small report :)

Happy with my flights and congrats to the winners.

Thanks to the SPC Colombia staff and all the pilots who made this a great competition weekend!

Senior Pattern Colombia had its first stage at Alcaravanes RC Club (Rionegro city), in June 9th and 10th - 2018. 42 contestants (Popayán, Cali, Cartago, Pereira, Manizales, Bogotá, Rionegro and Medellín) in three main classes: Advanced, intermediate and experts.

There were FAI F3A (Schedule P19 - F19) judged flights, from Sergio Velásquez and Marcelo Vélez, who are going to attend the US Nats next month. -Good luck-

The altitude of the field is about 2120m (6939ft) amsl and two flight lines were flown:

Advanced and intermediate: Parallel to the runway.

Expert's class: Above Black river and an small forest; gusts, vortexes, ascending thermal currents with vultures were permanent whole day with a maximum estimated wind speed 5 m/s.

SPC Colombia basic rules are:

Engines: Maximum model's engine displacement .65 2C / 0.95 4C (no superchargers allowed).
Model's design: Published or blueprints before 1993.
Three main classes: Advanced, intermediate and experts.

Thanks to SPC promoters to arrange this event again and to the sponsors: JRAmericasTronexRCMejzlik props and Zerie Ropa de ciclismo.
